When Star Wars: Starfighter began filming in the U.K., one surprise announcement immediately lit up the fandom — British actor Aaron Pierre had joined the main cast. Known for his breakout performances in The Underground Railroad and the upcoming DC series Lanterns, Pierre now finds himself part of not one, but two major cinematic universes.
Speaking with Esquire, Pierre expressed unfiltered enthusiasm about joining the galaxy far, far away. “Dude, I’m ecstatic. I’m over the moon,” he said. “There are really no words to articulate how thrilled, energized, [and] grateful I am. Every time I’m on set, I give everything I have. That’s how I show my gratitude for the opportunity.”

Pierre reflected on his lifelong connection to Star Wars, recalling his first experience watching The Phantom Menace as a wide-eyed five-year-old in 1999 — a memory he still treasures. “It was a core memory for me,” he explained. “And I would love if Starfighter becomes that kind of memory for others — something filled only with positive emotions.”
Although details of Pierre’s role remain tightly under wraps, the actor praised director Shawn Levy for his passion and care in bringing the project to life. “Shawn is wonderful. He cares deeply. Everyone involved does,” Pierre said. “We understand the magnitude of this, and we’re doing our best to deliver something truly special.”
Currently filming through the holidays, Starfighter is slated for release on May 28, 2027. The ensemble cast includes Ryan Gosling, Mia Goth, Matt Smith, Amy Adams, and Flynn Gray — but for Pierre, it’s more than just another blockbuster. It’s a lifelong dream come true.
