The Star Wars saga is heading into uncharted territory with Star Wars: The Last Order, the first official story set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. The young adult novel, written by Tristan Strong author Kwame Mbalia, will follow Finn and Jannah in a post-war galaxy still healing from the scars of the First Order.

According to Penguin Random House’s listing, the novel centers on Finn and Jannah—both former stormtroopers—as they lead a mission to rescue kidnapped children from remnants of the First Order. The book promises a deep exploration of their shared trauma, redemption arcs, and newfound purpose as freedom fighters.
"Following the end of The Rise of Skywalker, the Resistance rescues a ship full of young passengers... Finn and Jannah set out to find the First Order officer responsible before he can endanger any more children," reads the official description.
The novel is set for release on October 21 and marks Mbalia’s Star Wars debut.
While anticipation builds for Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter—starring Ryan Gosling and slated to hit theaters in 2027—The Last Order gives fans their first look into what comes next for characters from the sequel trilogy. It’s a long-awaited expansion for fans eager to see more from Finn, a key figure in the final trilogy whose story many felt was left incomplete.
