Gina Carano Settles Lawsuit with Lucasfilm and Disney

Actor Gina Carano has reached a settlement with Lucasfilm and The Walt Disney Co., resolving her federal lawsuit over her 2021 firing from The Mandalorian. The terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, but both parties issued conciliatory statements indicating a potential willingness to work together in the future. Lucasfilm praised Carano’s professionalism and respect for her colleagues, noting, “With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”

The settlement was filed in federal court with a stipulation to dismiss the case with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled. A judge’s formal dismissal is pending. The trial had originally been scheduled for February 2026 in Los Angeles.

Carano filed the lawsuit last year, alleging wrongful termination after she posted social media content comparing the treatment of American conservatives to that of Jews in Nazi Germany. The posts, widely criticized online, sparked the viral #FireGinaCarano campaign. In her statement following the settlement, Carano thanked supporters for their “unrelenting support,” expressed excitement for the next chapter of her career in the arts, and specifically thanked Elon Musk for funding the lawsuit “and asking for nothing in return.”

Her suit claimed she was fired for voicing her own opinions and resisting pressure from what she called an “online bully mob” promoting “extreme progressive ideology.” Carano, a former mixed martial artist, portrayed Cara Dune in The Mandalorian’s first two seasons, beginning with the series’ launch in 2019.

While the lawsuit focused on her controversial 2021 post, Carano had previously drawn criticism for mocking mask-wearing during the COVID-19 pandemic and making unfounded claims of voter fraud during the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

The Star Wars universe continues without her character, with The Mandalorian having concluded its third season and a theatrical spin-off, The Mandalorian and Grogu—starring Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver—set for release next summer. The settlement closes a contentious chapter in Carano’s career, though both she and Lucasfilm now hint at the possibility of future collaboration.
