Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 Not in the Works, Despite Fan Interest

Since the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the galaxy far, far away has shifted its focus to streaming series rather than theatrical releases. One of the standout Disney+ shows from this era was Obi-Wan Kenobi, which brought back Ewan McGregor as the iconic Jedi Master and explored his life in exile while protecting a young Leia Organa. The show was a hit with fans and critics alike, breaking Disney+ viewership records and reigniting interest in Kenobi’s post-Revenge of the Sith journey.

Despite its success, recent reporting from insider Jeff Sneider reveals that there are currently no plans for a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, shutting down ongoing rumors of a potential continuation. Lucasfilm originally billed the show as a miniseries, with its Blu-ray release labeled “The Complete Series,” reinforcing the idea that this was always intended as a one-and-done story.

While McGregor has expressed enthusiasm about returning—especially to explore Obi-Wan’s Clone Wars-era adventures in live action—Lucasfilm appears to be shifting gears. With The Mandalorian & Grogu and Star Wars: Starfighter planned for theaters in the coming years, and Ahsoka Season 2 the only live-action series currently in production, the studio may be pivoting back toward theatrical storytelling. Notably, Tony Gilroy reportedly heard from Disney that “streaming is dead,” suggesting a larger strategic pullback from streaming content.

The news is bittersweet for fans. On one hand, Kenobi’s story has been told across numerous formats, and his arc feels largely complete. On the other, McGregor’s portrayal remains beloved, and there’s still potential to tell meaningful stories with legacy characters. But as Star Wars evolves, the franchise must also make room for new heroes and narratives to keep the saga fresh for future generations.
