Oh, the Stories He Could Tell: Hondo Ohnaka Hinted to Return

Hondo Ohnaka may not have told his last tale in the Star Wars galaxy. Jim Cummings, the veteran voice actor behind the fan-favorite pirate in The Clone Wars and Rebels, recently hinted that Hondo still has adventures ahead. Speaking to The Direct during San Diego Comic-Con, Cummings teased, “I think you’re gonna have to stay tuned, because Hondo is not done yet.”

The remark was deliberately vague, leaving fans to speculate where Hondo could surface next. One obvious candidate is Maul: Shadow Lord, the upcoming animated series set in the underworld after The Clone Wars. With the story centered on crime syndicates and shady dealings, Hondo could easily fit into its narrative. Other possibilities include a new Tales of anthology miniseries, a cameo in LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past, or even a live-action return. With Ahsoka Season 2 currently filming and The Mandalorian & Grogu in development, both projects could provide opportunities for the lovable scoundrel to make his entrance.

There’s also a chance Cummings could have been hinting at something entirely different. Disney Parks could be planning an update to Hondo’s role in Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Galaxy’s Edge. And earlier this year, the actor revealed he had done facial recognition work for a Star Wars project—something fans initially assumed was tied to Star Wars Outlaws DLC “A Pirate’s Fortune,” which featured Hondo. But it’s possible that work was for another project, perhaps even Jon Favreau’s upcoming theatrical film.

For now, Cummings is playing coy, but his words make clear one thing: Star Wars hasn’t seen the last of Hondo Ohnaka. And for fans who love the pirate’s charm, wit, and unpredictability, that’s very good news.
