The dark side is thriving at the box office. The 20th anniversary re-release of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith delivered a stunning $42 million global debut this weekend, making it the highest-grossing domestic re-release since 2011.

Playing in over 2,700 theaters across the U.S., the third installment of the prequel trilogy earned $25.2 million domestically. Internationally, it brought in an additional $17 million, pushing its lifetime global gross near the $900 million milestone.
Domestically, Revenge of the Sith landed in second place behind Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, which earned $45 million in its second weekend. It edged out The Accountant 2 ($24.5M), A Minecraft Movie ($22.7M), and Until Dawn ($8M) to secure a top-tier box office spot.
This re-release marks a significant leap from last year’s Phantom Menace 25th anniversary reissue, which opened to $8.7 million and earned $13 million domestically. It has also surpassed other recent legacy re-releases, including Avatar’s 2022 run and even Return of the Jedi’s limited engagement.
Only The Lion King's 3D re-release in 2011 fared better among modern reissues, opening with $30.2 million domestically.
With Star Wars Celebration, the debut of Andor Season 2, and now Revenge of the Sith back on the big screen, it’s a banner season for Star Wars fans. The success of the re-release underscores the enduring power of Anakin Skywalker’s fall—and the franchise’s hold on the galaxy.
