Although it’s been nearly six years since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker concluded the Skywalker Saga, new rumors suggest Lucasfilm may not be finished with the sequel trilogy era. According to entertainment scooper Daniel Richtman, the studio is reportedly discussing a spin-off film set within the timeline of Episodes VII–IX. However, the specific character at the center of the proposed project remains unknown.

Richtman, who shared the scoop via his Patreon, noted that while discussions are taking place, details are scarce and Lucasfilm has not confirmed the report. If greenlit, this spin-off would mark the franchise’s third such theatrical endeavor after Rogue One (2016) and Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). A Lando project starring Donald Glover was announced in 2020, originally planned as a Disney+ series, but it has since shifted toward development as a feature film. That said, the project has seen little public progress in over two years.
This new rumored film could signal an effort by Lucasfilm to re-engage fans of the sequel trilogy and explore untapped storylines or characters from that era, potentially setting up new arcs or fleshing out existing ones. While some fans have speculated about spin-offs for Rey, Finn, or even Kylo Ren, no character has been confirmed.
Lucasfilm’s official return to theaters is currently scheduled for 2026 with The Mandalorian & Grogu. The studio is also actively developing Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, as well as a James Mangold-directed film set in the distant past of the galaxy.
As anticipation builds, the potential of a sequel trilogy spin-off adds intrigue to Star Wars' evolving roadmap—though fans will have to wait for official confirmation from Lucasfilm.
