Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Skeleton Crew aimed to bring an Amblin-inspired, family-friendly adventure to Disney+, but underwhelming ratings have cast doubt on its potential for a second season. Created by Christopher Ford and Jon Watts, the series offers a lighter take on the galaxy far, far away, contrasting with darker, more mature entries like Andor. Despite its unique approach, Skeleton Crew has struggled to connect with viewers.

According to Nielsen streaming data reported by The Direct, the show’s two-episode premiere saw the lowest viewership of any Star Wars series to date. With under 382 minutes watched in its first week, the series fell 20% below The Acolyte's debut numbers—a sobering comparison given The Acolyte was canceled after just one season.
Still, Skeleton Crew has received positive reviews from critics and fans, offering a glimmer of hope. In a TechRadar interview, Watts confirmed the team approached the first season with a self-contained story but remains eager to expand. Co-creator Ford added that they have ideas for a second season, though the decision lies with Disney, known for canceling underperforming projects.
As of now, Disney has not announced the show’s future, leaving fans to wonder if this adventure will continue or if it’s destined to remain a standalone journey.
