Nearly eight years after its release, Star Wars Battlefront II is experiencing a major resurgence on Steam. The DICE-developed shooter recently hit over 9,200 concurrent players—just shy of its all-time peak—fueled by fan nostalgia, renewed interest from Andor’s final season, and a growing movement for Battlefront III.

The game, long praised for its stunning visuals and vast character roster spanning all Star Wars eras, had seen modest numbers in recent years. But since mid-April 2025, daily peaks have more than tripled, reigniting conversation across social platforms and the Battlefront subreddit.
Even Andor actor Muhannad Ben Amor added fuel to the fire, posting on Instagram, “Star Wars gotta give us Battlefront 3 ASAP.” That rallying cry echoes thousands of fans who are petitioning EA to greenlight the sequel.
Despite combined sales of over 33 million units between the 2015 and 2017 games, EA has yet to confirm any new entries. A 2024 report suggested the publisher passed on Battlefront III due to high licensing costs from Disney, saying it would need to sell 20% more copies than its predecessor to be profitable.
For now, Battlefront II remains free via EA Play and Game Pass Ultimate, making it easily accessible to returning and new players alike.
While DICE is currently focused on Battlefield 6, the community’s revived enthusiasm proves the Force is still strong with Battlefront—and fans aren’t ready to let it fade into the stars just yet.
