Timothy Olyphant Keeps Asking Favreau and Filoni About Cobb Vanth’s Return

Timothy Olyphant isn’t ready to hang up his blaster just yet. In a recent interview with The RingerVerse, the actor revealed that he still regularly checks in with The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett creators Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni about the fate of his fan-favorite character, Cobb Vanth.

“I ask them all the time,” Olyphant admitted with a laugh. “I’m still in the dark, but I’d love to know what’s next for Cobb. I keep checking in—just in case I’ve still got a job somewhere out there in the galaxy.”

Introduced to Star Wars audiences in The Mandalorian Season 2, Cobb Vanth quickly became a breakout character. Played with Olyphant’s signature mix of charm and cool-headed grit, the lawman of Freetown embodied the space Western spirit that defines the show. But the roots of Cobb’s story actually go back further—to Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath novel trilogy, which first revealed how the self-appointed marshal recovered Boba Fett’s Mandalorian armor from a group of Jawas scavenging the sands of Tatooine.

Cobb’s on-screen story continued in The Book of Boba Fett, where he helped Din Djarin and the people of Freetown defend their home from the Pyke Syndicate. The last time audiences saw him, Cobb was gravely wounded by Cad Bane—only to be rescued by Boba Fett and placed in a bacta tank for recovery. Since then, fans have eagerly speculated when (or if) the honorable marshal will return to the screen.

So far, Olyphant hasn’t heard anything concrete. His comments seem to confirm that Cobb won’t appear in The Mandalorian & Grogu movie currently in development, though the door remains wide open for his return elsewhere in the galaxy far, far away.

For now, the actor has kept busy, recently starring in Alien: Earth, another sci-fi adventure under the Disney banner. But as far as Olyphant’s concerned, there’s always hope that the sheriff of Freetown will ride again.
