At FAN EXPO Boston, Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor sparked a wave of speculation after remarks that many fans interpreted as confirming his return as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Ahsoka season 2. McGregor, who famously portrayed the Jedi Master in the prequel trilogy and reprised the role in the 2022 Disney+ limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi, was asked which Star Wars project he wasn’t involved in but enjoyed most. He replied that it was Ahsoka, largely because he loved watching his wife, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who plays Hera Syndulla in the series.

During his answer, McGregor casually mentioned that Winstead was filming the second season, adding “Is that a secret? Well, she is anyway,” which led some fans to believe he might also be involved. However, according to Collider, Lucasfilm quickly reached out to multiple media outlets, including Star Wars News Net, to clarify that McGregor will not appear in Ahsoka season 2.
In his anecdote, McGregor described life at home while Winstead is on set—taking their four-year-old son to school and occasionally FaceTiming her during production. He joked about forgetting she would be in green makeup when she called, describing her as “a very beautiful green lady,” and praising the series as “brilliantly done.”
Ahsoka season 2, currently in production, stars Rosario Dawson as the title character, a former Jedi apprentice of Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen). Season 1, released in 2023, continued Ahsoka’s story in live-action after her animated appearances in The Clone Wars and featured notable cameos, including Christensen’s return as Anakin and the debut of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) in live-action.
While Lucasfilm’s denial appears definitive, Star Wars has a history of concealing surprise appearances—most famously Luke Skywalker’s unexpected return in The Mandalorian season 2 finale. McGregor has been vocal about wanting to play Obi-Wan again, and fans remain hopeful for future appearances, whether in Ahsoka, a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, or another project. For now, though, audiences will have to wait before hearing another new “Hello there” from McGregor’s beloved Jedi.
