Oscar Isaac is once again addressing the question that has followed him since The Rise of Skywalker: would he ever return to Star Wars? In a new interview with GQ, conducted while promoting Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, Isaac offered his clearest answer in years—one that mixes humility, humor, and a pointed message for Disney.

The conversation began with a revisit to his now-famous 2020 quote, in which Isaac told Deadline he wouldn’t return to the galaxy far, far away unless he “needed another house.” Five years later, Isaac winces at the memory. “Yeah. That was a real likable quote. Jesus Christ,” he told GQ. “People ask you things, you say stuff… I said a slightly dickish thing.”
Pressed again on whether he’d be open to coming back as Poe Dameron, Isaac didn’t shut the door. But his answer came with sharp context. The interview took place just two days after Disney temporarily suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! in response to backlash over on-air remarks made after the death of Charlie Kirk—a move Isaac clearly had on his mind.
“Yeah, I mean, I’d be open to it,” he said. “Although right now I’m not so open to working with Disney. But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great.”
The late-night show resumed shortly after, but Isaac’s representatives have not clarified whether his feelings have shifted since then.
Isaac now joins a growing list of sequel-era actors tentatively willing to return. Daisy Ridley remains attached to an upcoming film, John Boyega continues to fluctuate on the subject, and Adam Driver had been developing The Hunt for Ben Solo for two years before Disney quietly shelved it.
